Forget summer wardrobes and beach bodies. We're more concerned about stocking up on our summer wine supply. We've put together a list of our top picks and top sellers of refreshing lighter reds, whites, rosés and of course bubbly.

Springfield Life From Stone - Sauvignon Blanc

We have a silent sigh of relief every year when the latest vintage of the Springfield Life From Stone Sauvignon Blanc is released because we can't imagine welcoming summer without opening one of these bottles. Indulging in a bottle of Life From Stone after a long hot day is one of the most rewarding summer treats. This wine remains one of our best sellers, showing the consistent quality with every vintage.

Mulderbosch Rosé

Come summer, the customers come knocking for this lively Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé from Mulderbosch Vineyards. It's light and fruity with a natural acidity that makes it incredibly refreshing on those hot days. Rosé has made a big comeback, thanks to more producers leaning towards a dry style of rosé and this wine won't disappoint those who love a drier white wine. The beautiful pink colour leaves us dreaming about summertime get-togethers with friends, big glass of rosé in hand with some olive appetizers, pizza or salmon to pair it with.

Waterford Heatherleigh - Muscat d'Alexandrie

A favourite summer treat is the natural sweet Heatherleigh from this leading Stellenbosch estate served on crushed ice. Serving it chilled or on ice brings a fun element to a very elegant wine. It's a great way to enjoy dessert wines in summer and the perfect way to end the day or as a refreshing welcoming drink to a dinner party. Waterford's Family Reserve wines are only labeled and released in exceptional vintages and the back blending of barrels, following the Solera system, adds a wonderful infusion of depth, richness and a vibrant youthfullness to the wine.

Klawer African Ruby Rooibos Vermouth - Muscat de Frontignan

We first started taking note of this fortified from the Olifants River region when we noticed how much our consumers love it. Orders keep coming in month after month from all over South Africa. It's a true South African taste adventure and the Rooibos-infused wine with flavours of muscat will leave a rich feel in your mouth. Its versatility is part of its beauty, you can enjoy it on its own, as a nightcap after dinner or best of all; use it in a sunset cocktail.

Vondeling Rurale Blanc de Noir

The end of the year comes with lots of celebrations and having a bottle of good bubbly at hand is a must. The wine is crisp but not acidic, full but not sweet, complex but not coarse. It has a subtle blush of salmon pink and a persistent mousse. Having spent three years on the lees gives the wine palate weight and complexity and smooth bubbles. To throw in a fun fact, Rurale is the original name for what later became known as Mèthode Ancestrale and the first Vondeling Rurale is the first Mèthode Ancestrale to be certified in South Africa. It comes down to the fact that a lot of love was poured into making this wine as its a very labour-intensive way to produce sparkling wine and only 1200 bottles were produced. Spoil yourself and your loved ones to some of these special bubbles.

Cederberg Sustainable Rosé

Another pink summer refresher that has to feature on this list is the Cederberg Sustainable Rosé. Aromas of strawberries, watermelon and cotton candy and a coral pink appearance will make you feel like you're on vacation from the moment you open the bottle. It's a dry rosé, with a creamy palate yet a crisp finish. At under R90 a bottle, it also won't break the bank.

Alleé Bleue Chenin Blanc

Summer wouldn't quite be summer without a bottle of Chenin Blanc. We love this Chenin from the Franschhoek Valley. It's lightly wooded, giving it great texture and some complexity but not overpowering the fruit. The zesty minerality and lemony aftertaste makes it perfect for the warmer days and would make it a great match with some seafood dishes such as line fish with lemon butter and grilled vegetables or West Coast mussels in a creamy white wine sauce.

Compagniesdrift Chardonnay

Gone are the ABC (Anything-but-Chardonnay) days. The Compagniesdrift Unwooded Chardonnay is a great uncomplicated summer heat-buster. It shows lovely aromas of lemon, yellow apple and white peach. The palate shows vibrant fruit with a mouthfilling creaminess and persistant fresh citrus finish. Sounds like summer in a bottle to us. We know you will want to keep this one to yourself but at only R82 per bottle, you can pour your friends a few glasses too.
