Michelangelo International Awards
The general wine-loving public of South and Southern Africa will for the first time be able to enjoy the award-winning wines from the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards, the country’s only truly international wine competition.

Michelangelo will be hosting its first public tasting on 6 and 7 April at Montecasino in Johannesburg, with similar events planned for later in the year in other parts of South Africa as well as other SADEC countries.

Some 50+ producers of wine and craft spirits, who excelled at last year’s Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards will showcase their awarded wines, as well as other products in their portfolio. The two day event, held in three sessions of informative and delicious wine-tastings, is expected to attract thousands of wine lovers who now have the chance to taste exceptional wines judged by a panel comprising mainly of international wine experts.

Lorraine Immelman, CEO of the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards, says the public tastings represent a new chapter in the 21-year history of the competition.

The uniqueness of Michelangelo lies in that our judges are predominantly international wine experts who bring a different skills-set to judging entries into the competition,” says Immelman. “In 2017 we had 28 judges from 22 countries, making this South Africa’s only true international drinks showcase. With the interest in Michelangelo growing each year, we took the decision to take the entries and the producers to the public, allowing consumers to see and taste what it is that makes Michelangelo so unique.

With Tsogo Sun being a headline sponsor of the competition, we are exceptionally privileged to be able to host the first ever Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards Winners Show at this hospitality group’s popular Montecasino location. Visitors can look forward to tasting a diverse range of wines and spirits, all underscored by the Michelangelo stamp of excellence.

Friday the 6th of April sees one tasting session being held from 17:00 to 22:00, with two sessions on Saturday 7 April at 13:00 and 18:00 respectively.

Ticket prices are R150 for each session. Bookings at Computicket.
