Even though location, aspects and micro climates makes for their traditional full-bodied, hearty and fortified wines with excellent fruit concentration especially the Fine Old Vintage, their Port style wine. Allesverloren dips its toe into white wine with the release of the Allesverloren Chenin Blanc 2017.
Owner and cellar master, Danie Malan is the fifth generation of Malan’s on the farm. In 1998, Danie was named Diners Club Winemaker of the Year for his signature wine, the 1996 Allesverloren Shiraz.
The dry land, trellised vineyards from which the fruit for the Allesverloren Chenin Blanc 2017 was sourced are situated on the north-eastern
slopes of the Kasteelberg where they benefit from optimum sunlight to produce an abundance of complex flavours. The grapes were handpicked early in the morning and taken to the cellar where they were destalked and crushed. The juice was clarified and inoculated with pure yeast culture. It was aged for 7 months in old oak barrels. After blending it was fined and clarified just before bottling. The wine was clarified by time and gravity alone to allow for bottling without filtration.
