The Veritas Awards is South Africa’s foremost wine competition and has been held since 1991 by the SA wine industry. Wine experts and lovers annually look forward to find the country’s very best wines, as a Veritas award is seen as a stamp of quality.
The Veritas board this year approved some important amendments to the Veritas rules. In future, five instead of seven judges will serve on each panel, while the 100-point tasting scale instead of the 20-point scale will be used in evaluation, in line with international standards. The availability of only 50 cases (6x750ml) of each winning wine will be required in future instead of 200 cases in the past.
More than 90 international and local wine experts will gather at the Nederburg Auction Complex in Paarl from 4 - 8 September to judge all the entries. The judges are carefully chosen from a broad spectrum of experts in the industry and include winemakers, viticulturists, brandy masters, Cape Wine Masters, journalists, academics, researchers and dealers.
The winning wines and brandies will be announced in the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Friday 6 October.
The winners of double gold and gold medals will have the opportunity to present their winning wines and brandies at countrywide public tastings in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth in October and November.
