Ongoing training contributes to a satisfied and efficient workforce, and help employees to stay interested and motivated. In turn, ongoing training help to reduce staff turnover which is to the benefit of all. It is important that learning should be relevant to the industry, irrespective of a specific workplace and should form part of long-term career planning.
Over the years a ladder of training was developed for the Cellar Assistants in the SA Wine Industry.
SKOP 1 was introduced 30 years ago by a few winemakers who recognised the importance of an educated workforce. Shortly after that SKOP 2 followed. On demand of the Cellar Assistants for more training, SKOP 3 was launched 10 years ago. Up to date, 483 Cellar Assistants completed SKOP 3.
10 years later, again on demand of Cellar Assistants who are thirsty for knowledge, a comprehensive review and consultation with Cellar Assistants and Winemakers, resulted in the birth of SKOP 4. SKOP 4 was developed and the first intake for this 9 day programme will take place from June 2017 onwards. The programme will be offered as a short course with an accredited option as a Skills Programme.
