Bouchard Finlayson has selected six bottles of its revered Tête de Cuvée Pinot Noir as auction lot for this year’s fundraising Cape Wine Auction (CWA), sponsored by Nedbank Private Wealth. The lot will also include a three-night stay at The Red Carnation Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa.

The pre-eminent Hemel-en-Aarde Valley winery and its owners the Tollman Family, have been firm supporters of this initiative since its inception three years ago. To date, the event has raised in excess of R33 million, which was distributed to 13 different charities actively working with education across the Western Cape.

Known for showcasing South Africa’s finest wines in extraordinary once-off auction lots, which are not generally available for sale anywhere else, the lot of Bouchard Finlayson will comprise of six different vintages (2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009) of the Tête de Cuvée Pinot Noir. A truly iconic wine, Tête de Cuvée Pinot Noir consistently scores Platinum in the South African Wine Index Awards (SAWi). Hand-picked by Peter Finlayson and winemaker Chris Albrecht from a handful of the finest barrels in the cellar, the limited edition wine portrays the very best of the vintage. It is produced in exceptional years only, before barrel maturation of 15 months in French oak to characteristically reveal pure aromas of raspberry, cherry, flowers and spice, and musky suggestions of truffle and forest floor.

The Cape Wine Auction is held over two days, and will kick off with The American Express Barrel Auction to be held at La Motte on 10 February 2017, followed the next day by The Cape Wine Auction at Anthonij Rupert Wyne on the farm L’Ormarins.
