On Saturday the 5th of November the Pebbles Project helped hosted the Make A Difference Leadership Foundation's final Cape Town Leadership Forum and Scholar Celebration Function & Award Ceremony at Villiera Wine farm in Stellenbosch. MAD Leadership Foundation wanted 50 of their scholars to also give back to the community, as part of their leadership development, and Pebbles had the perfect task.
Every year Pebbles gives each one of their learners going into grade R, grade 8 and matric a school pack fully equipped with a personalised school uniform, shoes and socks, and a stationary kit so they can start the new academic year confidently. Pebbles asks members of the public and corporate groups to sponsor school packs at R200 each. This is often a major financial burden for some of the parents to bear and children often miss school due to not having the correct uniform. The MAD Leadership Foundation scholars successfully packed 252 school packs in record time, which will be handed out to the Pebbles learners in January 2017.
Dr Mamphela Ramphele also attended to facilitate a ReimagineSA leadership workshop with the MAD Leadership Foundation scholars as part of their leadership forum. The day ended with an awards ceremony - handing out certificates for the MAD Leadership Foundation scholars for academic achievements and a wonderful spitbraai with their parents and mentors.
