Nederburg Auction
The 41st annual Nederburg Auction, the oldest auction in the New World of wine, takes place on the 11th and 12th of September at the Nederburg winery in Paarl. This year’s theme, Beyond, promises to continue making its mark long after the event has ended.

“For 40 years, the Nederburg Auction has invested in excellence as the country's leading platform for the sale of rare, icon South African wines”, says Nederburg Auction business manager Dalene Steyn. “This is the Nederburg Auction’s legacy and in this, its 41st year, the time has arrived for us to take this legacy and inspire the icon wines of the future.”

There couldn’t be a more appropriate time for the Auction to take up the challenge. In today’s instant gratification society, time is more of a luxury than ever, with the result that many wines are made for immediate enjoyment. The Nederburg Auction is committed to ensuring that the legacy of creating iconic wines, those with long-term ageing potential, continues along with our country’s rich, beautiful, rare wine heritage.

Steyn comments: “We cannot achieve icon wines without icon producers and we hope to play a role in building the wine heroes of the future, while protecting the best of our winemaking past. An inclusive platform such as the Nederburg Auction affords producers the opportunity to excel and the result is winemaking that is confident, imaginative, sensitive and highly responsive to their specific environment.”

This year’s Auction will once again follow the well-established programme of events, with Friday getting underway with an informal tasting of the Auction wines before bidding for the majority of the wines starts. While Saturday’s main auction continues on from Friday, with anticipated intense and competitive bidding, the day takes on more of a lifestyle aspect, with outstanding food, exquisite art and world-class entertainment taking centre stage once the remaining lots have been auctioned and the well-supported charity auction concluded.
