Nederburg Auction
Record prices achieved at last year’s Nederburg Auction bodes well for this year’s event – and will no doubt see rarity handsomely rewarded again, says Auction manager Dalene Steyn in her call for entries to the 41st Auction.

The closing date for submissions is Friday, 27 February 2015.

“We’re calling on producers to submit their rarest and most exceptional wines for consideration, as premium local wines will always experience strong demand at the event.

“We’ve campaigned tirelessly over the last four years to encourage producers to submit their very best items – those that they would keep for special celebrations for example, and this is now reaping rewards, judging from the high prices achieved over the past few years.

“These prices are also the result of increased stringency in our selection process, undertaken by the panel of local and international wine judges, which brought about drastically smaller volumes of much higher quality, and correspondingly, more competition for the smaller lots on auction.

“This year’s Auction gives us an opportunity to build on the success of 2014 – a breakthrough year for local fine wines. We invite producers in joining us in this mission,” she says.

Producers may submit their finest via http://enter.nederburgauction.co.za by Friday 27 February 2015 for potential inclusion at this year’s Auction on September 11th and 12th.

In order to represent wines that carry icon status, the Auction is calling for exceptional entries. Producers need to note that wines that have been sold on previous Nederburg Auctions may generally not be submitted immediately again, unless a case or two were specifically kept back to further mature, with the intention to re-submit five or 10 years down the line.

Steyn says the Auction is an industry event that celebrates memorable wines with special stories. “These wines, sold at a realistic reserve price, make for great brands that will ultimately be noticed and bought.”
