Celebrating heritage artistically
Honouring the detail in watercolour, local artist Stephen J Quirke highlights the truth, beauty, and goodness in the unfolding storied history of serene landscapes.
The beauty of watercolour art lies in its luminosity and transparency, and in August 2023 Stephen was awarded Best Watercolour at the annual exhibition of the South African Society of Artists.
We welcome you to experience Stephen J Quirke's latest masterpieces in the exhibition in Lanzerac's White Wine Cellar.
Artwork are on display from 1 December 2024 until 15 January 2025. Exhibition is open daily from 08h00 - 19h00.

Ubuntu International Sommeliers Trophy
The 2024 Ubuntu International Sommeliers Trophy, coordinated by the Sommeliers Academy in partnership with Stellenbosch Wine Routes, is taking place today (9 December), and Lanzerac is honoured to play host to this important event.
Being one of the wine industry’s most anticipated events, bringing together some of the leading skilled professionals and showcasing their exceptional talent, this year is no different and hold even more competition. For the first time since its inception, the battle of skills between the regular opponents Zimbabwe and South Africa has a new contender - Mauritius.
Among the judges evaluating the performance of the contenders this year are a former Best Sommelier of the World, Giuseppe Vaccarini of Italy, and Michèle Chantome, vice president of the World International of Sommeliers (ASI).
“Sommeliers are a cornerstone to elevating South Africa’s hospitality and wine industry. Together with hospitality influencers, they’re vital ambassadors that bridge the gap between winemakers and consumers with their expertise in wine pairing, service, and storytelling. Their contribution shapes guest experiences, fosters a deeper appreciation for fine wine, and has the ability to promote Stellenbosch and its wines on the global stage,” says Elmarie Rabe, Stellenbosch Wine Routes.
Lanzerac’s commitment to delivering consistently high-calibre guest experiences aligns seamlessly with those embodied in the pursuits of the sommelier profession and the goals of the industry.

Commemorating Bergzicht Alumni
Stellenbosch-based non-governmental organisation Bergzicht Training and Development honoured working alumni at their 6th Annual Celebration Day on 13 November 2024. Situated in the heart of the winelands, their mission is to empower and inspire disadvantaged persons with little formal education, by equipping them with the skills that they need to extricate themselves from impoverished circumstances.
Lanzerac is incredibly proud, as one of our team members, commis chef Vuyiseka Xatasi, was crowned with the Top Achiever Award.
She expressed her gratitude, saying, "This is how Bergzicht thanks a person for one’s hard work and makes one feel appreciated. It makes me very proud of myself after having gone through a personal ordeal through which I persevered. The recognition showed me that I am a strong woman, and that God is always with me. Bergzicht motivates you to always do your best to deliver, and this win of mine should motivate others to always give their best in everything they undertake in life."
