As Lanzerac welcomes the new season and honours a legacy dating back to 1959, we raise a glass to the proudly South African variety – Pinotage.
Celebrating 65 years of Pinotage
One of South Africa’s signature wines, Pinotage, was discovered on our very own doorstep by Professor Abraham Izak Perold, the first Professor of Viticulture at the University of Stellenbosch.
It was in 1925 that he cross-pollinated Pinot Noir and Cinsaut, and in 1961 the world’s first commercially available Pinotage was released under the Lanzerac label.

Pinotage Festival
It comes as no surprise that celebrating International Pinotage Day at Lanzerac is a highlight on all Pinotage Lover’s calendar each year.
Families, friends and wine oenophiles can spend the weekend enjoying fun-filled festivities at this year’s Pinotage Festival. Our Tasting Room and Deli will be transformed into a relaxed seating area with good food, a wine station and live entertainment.
Join us on Saturday, 12 October 2024, and Sunday, 13 October 2024, create everlasting memories.
Entrance to the festival is free and open from 08h00 - 18h00.
Although pre-bookings at our Tasting Room and Deli is encouraged, during the festival seating is on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis.
