This remarkable accolade was achieved with the La Cave Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 and La Cave Pinotage 2003. Over and above its stellar performance at Veritas, Bennie Wannenburg's La Cave Pinotage 2003 was selected last week as an Absa Top Ten Pinotage for 2004 - Bennie and La Cave's third consecutive inclusion in the Top Ten. The La Cave range is made in limited quantities from single vineyard blocks and only when a particular vintage's quality is deemed suitably superior by cellarmaster Bennie Wannenburg, winemaker André Swanepoel and consulting viticulturist Johan Viljoen. The range is named after the rustic underground cellar in the French tradition in which the La Cave wines undergo a slow and gentle wood maturation in small oak casks. Wamakersvallei Winery has in recent years excelled as one of South Africa's foremost producers and is considered a leader in the production of ultra-premium red wines. The following accolades testify in this regard: Michelangelo International Wine Awards 2004 - Gold for La Cave Pinotage 2002 - Gold for La Cave Merlot 2002 International Wine & Spirit Competition (UK) 2003 - Cabernet Sauvignon Trophy for La Cave Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 Fairbairn Capital Wine Trophy Show 2003 - "Top 100" status for La Cave Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 and La Cave Pinotage 2001 Veritas 2003 - Gold for La Cave Pinotage 2002 Absa Top 10 Pinotage 2003 - La Cave Pinotage 2002 Veritas 2002 - Only producer to be awarded 3 double gold medals - Double gold for Cave Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon en Shiraz 2001 Absa Top 10 Pinotage 2002 - La Cave Pinotage 2001 The La Cave range is sold in selected retail outlets and boutique wine shops nationally and abroad.
