Flagship Wines
Switzerland - top rating for Morgenhof Estate

From Flagship Wines on behalf of Morgenhof:

News from Flagship Wines, based in Switzerland, is that the Swiss magazine WeinWisser awarded the Morgenhof Merlot Reserve 2000 a highly successful 17 points in a recent Merlot tasting involving hundreds of wines.

To quote from their press release: ‘WeinWisser was satisfied not only by the taste of the Morgenhof wines, but also by its favourable price-performance ratio.’ As a comparison, they mention that Château Pétrus 2000 Merlot achieved 17.58 points in a blind tasting by twelve tasters - which makes Morgenhof’s performance more than respectable at 17 points.

A total of 21 South African wines were tasted (average score between 15 and 16 points). Other SA wines achieving 17 points were Veenwouden Merlot Private Cellar 2000, de Trafford Merlot 2001, Meerlust Merlot 1999 and Spice Route Flagship Merlot 2000.

Comparing the scores with the prices, Flagship notes that SA is clearly is positioned in the right price area. ‘In the minds of Swiss consumers, South Africa has made a shift from low price to top quality wines at an affordable price.'
