Newest range released
Wildekrans Wine Estate, well known for their red wines in South Africa, Europe and North America has released their newest range.

This range includes their renowned Wildekrans Pinotage Barrel Select 2002 as well as the Wildekrans Warrant 2001, recognised for its complex aromas. In addition to this the estate has launched its 2002 Pinotage as well as the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, offering a pleasing choice for appreciating palates. A complex aroma resulting from a balanced combination of the use of new oak and ripe fruit, best describes the high quality 2001 Warrant.

This is a true Bordeaux blend made up from 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot – a true classic. Maturation in French Oak barrels for twelve months, leads to a deep dark purple colour around an opaque mountain pool centre. Layers of blackberry, mulberry, cassis and spice contribute to the delightful aroma, whilst the intense red berry flavours lead to a long finish on the palate. This wine will mature well for ten to fifteen years, making it the perfect companion at any special occasion. The award-winning 2002 Pinotage Barrel Select is a real pedigree, a blend of the Estates’ finest grapes, harvested from their select bush vines.

Matured in medium toasted new French Oak barrels for twelve months, the deep dark purple colour is typical of 2002. The pronounced wood essence, coffee, ripe fruit and youngberry aromas enhance the new oak barrel flavours, while velvet soft textures ensure a long finish on the palate. Wildekrans’ 2002 Pinotage is a soft velvety generous drinking wine. Barrel aged for nine months and sourced from low yielding vineyards, this Pinotage explodes with ripe lingering fruit flavours. Matured in French Barriques for nine months, the 2000 Merlot displays a deep inky, ruby black colour with forward raspberry and plum aromas.

With soft tannins, this well balanced wine has a grippy mouth feel with finish. Deep centred with a garnet edge, the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon shows off with typical cool climate aromas and palate. Showing a full deep red colour, this wine is a delight to the olfactory senses, including aromas of blackcurrant herbal cassis, spicy red fruit and a hint of molasses and liquorice. Soft tannins lead to this wine being well structured and having a long mineral mouth watering finish.

'I’m very pleased with these releases - our hard work and dedication has paid off, and I’m hoping that our critics will share my enthusiasm,' concludes Bruce Elkin, owner and winemaker at Wildekrans Wine Estate. Pricing available on request.
