Now in its 18th year, the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show is South Africa’s premier wine competition, identifying the best wines in their class, recognising the achievements of the country's winemakers, and honouring excellence in the wine industry.
The Neil Ellis Amica Sauvignon Blanc 2017 is a wine dedicated to a gathering of friends. Derived from the Latin word, Amicus, can be described as a gathering of friends. It tells the story of friends around a table eating good food with good company. “The way wine was meant to be enjoyed,” adds Neil Ellis.
Winemaking rules were broken to create this sophisticated style of South African Sauvignon Blanc. The source of the fruit is a single vineyard site from the Jonkershoek Valley and was 100% naturally fermented. Strongly influenced by the interaction of soil, topography and climate, this Sauvignon Blanc is lively, complex and reflective of its origin.
“Wow, what an honour to be included in the gold award line-up this year. Amica has always been a special wine for us, sourcing the fruit from the same property where our coveted Jonkershoek Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are grown. We believe this Sauvignon Blanc truly expresses the distinctive style of Stellenbosch Sauvignon,” says winemaker Warren Ellis.
