Constantia Glen
The much anticipated 2015 vintage of Constantia Glen FIVE, the flagship Bordeaux-style red from this acclaimed boutique wine estate, has triumphed on the world stage, bringing home a platinum medal and rave reviews from leading international wine commentators.

The newly released Constantia Glen FIVE 2015 hit the spot at the prestigious 2019 Decanter World Wine Awards in London, attaining a platinum medal with a score of 97 points out of 100. It was one of only six wines to obtain platinum out of the 565 entries from South Africa in this year’s competition.

The wine also stood up to critical acclaim in the USA where it garnered a score of 91 points from respected wine commentator, James Molesworth of Wine Spectator, who described the blend as “alluring” and “a lovely cool-climate version.”

This lauded wine intrigues with concentrated notes of cedar and graphite, while a swirl of the glass releases attractive floral and dried-herb aromas. Meticulously crafted from the grapes grown on the estate, this blend of 33% Cabernet Franc, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Petit Verdot, 17% Merlot and 13% Malbec, expresses a broad spectrum of savoury flavours centred around a vibrant core of cassis and black cherries. This compelling wine was matured for 18 months in 75% new and 25% second-fill French oak barrels.

“The predominance of Cabernet Franc makes this vintage particularly enjoyable. The spectacular 2015 vintage with slightly warmer than usual ripening conditions produced amazing Cabernet Franc from our estate-grown vineyards, and it made sense to highlight it in this vintage of the FIVE. The wine shows restraint, lively freshness, precision and length,” says winemaker Justin van Wyk.

The award-winning Constantia Glen FIVE 2015 is available directly from the estate, as well as at fine dining restaurants and boutique wine shops. It sells at the cellar door for R420 per bottle.

Known for exceptional cool climate Bordeaux-style red and white wines, Constantia Glen’s dryland vineyards are farmed without any irrigation.
