Delheim Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, great wine, great value…

I always find it so exciting when Delheim releases a new vintage.  It always reminds me of Delheim way back when the totally incorrigible Spatz Sperling was at the head of this family winery in Stellenbosch.

A man who laughed uproariously, a man who was very serious about what he did. A founder of the now famous Stellenbosch Wine Route and mentor to so many young winemakers who have moved on to great things.

Delheim winemaker Roelof Lotriet

A wine that I really grew to like in my times in Australia is a Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon Blend. Not exactly traditionally bed mates, but my goodness, they make perfect blending partners in the Delheim Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2017.

“This blend offers the best of both worlds,” says Delheim winemaker Roelof Lotriet of the 2017 vintage wine. “Its aroma is loaded with typical Shiraz spice and complemented by the mature tobacco leaf notes of the Cabernet Sauvignon.

“It’s lovely and juicy, with flavours of plums and cherries. Every sip lingers with bright red fruit,” says Lotriet. “It’s just perfect for the braai and hearty dishes. “Always keep a couple of bottles in the wine rack for the next occasion,” he adds.

Myrna Robins, the doyenne of wine and food writers

Myrna Robins, the doyenne of wine writers wrote recently “What’s not to like about a captivating ruby-hued wine, medium-bodied, aromatic and fruity, that slips down as an enjoyable aperitif? It also goes on to happily accompany a range of home-cooked favourites, from mac’n cheese to chicken pie, from vegetarian pizzas to bangers and mash. It’s a wine that takes to weekend braais with equal enthusiasm, partnering chicken Sosaties, boerewors and ribbetjies and yes, will be as happy paired with burgers, with pasta, with toasted cheese and tomato…”

Couldn’t have put it better myself. This wine is sold at the most even-handed price of R85.00 a bottle, you can’t not buy a case. Read more about Delheim Wines – CLICK HERE
