South African wine businesses will equip themselves for the new year by taking a look at the factors that will drive the wine and brandy industry to be more sustainable, profitable and competitive in 2019.

The Nedbank Vinpro Information Day, with the theme It starts with you, will be held at the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC), on 17 January 2019 from 09:00 – 15:00.

From a macro to micro perspective, Agbiz’s Wandile Sihlobo will first provide an overview of confidence, growth and jobs in the broader agricultural sector, after which Christo Conradie of Vinpro will look at the state of the wine industry and factors that influence wine businesses.

Linda Lipparoni of the ethical trade organisation WIETA will emphasise the importance of social dialogue in the South African wine industry, highlighting various initiatives and forums.

As per usual Francois Viljoen of Vinpro will provide an overview of the season and expectations of the 2019 wine grape harvest, as well as new developments in the vineyard.

From vineyard to market, Mark Norrish of Ultra Liquors will share trends and guidelines for the way forward in the local market from a retail perspective, after which international wine expert and writer from the UK, Robert Joseph, will look at the future of wine globally and what the South African wine industry should do to adapt and survive in this new world.

Political commentator Max du Preez will conclude the day by providing an overview of the political landscape and urges citizens to take a long hard look at themselves.

The Information Day will be held for the 14th year in 2019, with Nedbank as the main sponsor since 2006. Old Mutual and Old Mutual Insure will be involved via smaller sponsorships for the fourth consecutive year.

Apart from the strategic information that will be shared, guiding wine businesses for the new year, the Nedbank Vinpro Information Day also provides the ideal networking opportunity for wine grape producers, cellars, suppliers of products of services to the industry and other role-players in the wine industry value-chain.
