Durbanville Hills Cellar
After sampling nearly 1700 wines during his visits to South Africa, Atkin said that he was extremely impressed with the overall quality of the wine being produced in the region. According to Atkin, the 2015 Tangram red vintage was recently described by Jan Boland Coetzee as the best he’s seen in 50 years - but the 2017 whites are every bit as spectacular.
“This year I was again delighted to discover some exciting new names alongside established performers. The South African wine scene has never been more vibrant or diverse, “said Atkin.
These accolades are the latest in a stellar career for the Durbanville Hills Collectors Reserve, which was launched to the market earlier this year. The fact that two of these awards came from a new range is something that Martin Moore, Cellar Master at Durbanville Hills, sees as a remarkable achievement. “We are thrilled about the Collectors Reserve Cape Mist Sauvignon Blanc 2017 and the Lighthouse Merlot 2016 both receiving 90 points.”
Tim Atkin’s final results was announced in his 2018 South Africa Special Report on 12 September 2018.
