2017 has without a doubt been a stellar year for Paul Cluver Wines, securing accolades both locally and nationally for its excellent range of wines.

The latest being a prestigious 5-star rating in the Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide 2018, for the Paul Cluver Close Encounter Riesling 2016. What makes this award so significant is that it was the only Riesling to be awarded a 5-star.

A total of 111 five-star wines are featured in the 2018 guides, which is scheduled for release later this month. All wines that scored 4,5 stars (equivalent to 90 points) or higher in the primary assessment went into the second round of tasting, which was conducted blind by small panels.

Cellar Master Andries Burger describes the wine as being wonderfully fragrant with concentrated fruit and floral notes. These lead into an abundance of mango, orange and frangipani flavours, with a hint of sweet melon and pineapple freshness. The presence of a lime and lemongrass finish complete what promises to be a perfect wine. A versatile wine which can be enjoyed on its own or pairs perfectly with spicy food and sushi. Available directly from the cellar at R100 per bottle, or select stores nationwide.

Not stopping there, a total of eight wines in the range each received a 4 ½ -star rating in the same guide. Before being confirmed as 4 ½ -star wines they automatically qualified as 5-star nominees, as each wine received a score of 90+. These were awarded to the following wines:

Paul Cluver Chardonnay 2016

Paul Cluver Dry Encounter Riesling 2016

Paul Cluver Gewürztraminer 2016

Paul Cluver Pinot Noir 2015

Paul Cluver Sauvignon Blanc 2017
