Nederburg Wines
Nederburg will be bringing out some of its most awarded wines for this year’s RMB WineX festival to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

This glitzy annual showcase brings together some of the best-of-best on offer from South African wineries, and takes place on 25, 26 and 27 October 2017, from 17:00 to 21:00.

Nederburg assistant-winemaker, Heinrich Kulsen, together with Nederburg’s tasting room manager, Luzaan Kruger, will be delighting wine lovers with tales of harvests past, special moments and memories shared, and the special joy of achievement and recognition.

Get a rare taste of Nederburg’s Heritage Heroes The Anchorman Chenin Blanc 2016. It was recently selected as one of the winning wines of the 2017 Standard Bank Chenin Blanc Top 10 Challenge, convened by South Africa’s Chenin Blanc Association.  Earlier this year, the same vintage was awarded platinum at the 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards for best South African Chenin blanc (priced at over ₤15).

The Anchorman remembers Nederburg’s founder, Philippus Wolvaart, who established the farm in Paarl in 1791 and planted Chenin blanc, amongst other varietals.

Every wine in the lauded Heritage Heroes collection honours a visionary who has helped shape Nederburg and its history as one of South Africa’s most pedigreed names in wine.

The Anchorman will be offered for tasting alongside the rest of the Heritage Heroes ensemble, including the latest vintages of:

  • The Brew Master, a Bordeaux-style red blend that honours Johann Graue, a pioneering winemaker who was amongst the earliest to recognise that vineyard quality dictates wine quality.  The 2014 vintage scored five stars in the 2017 Platter’s South African Wine Guide.
  • The Beautiful Lady, an aromatic Gewürztraminer, that recalls Johann Graue's wife Ilse, who brought grace, hospitality and a beautiful rose garden to Nederburg.
  • The Young Airhawk, a wooded Sauvignon blanc that remembers Johann and Ilse’s son, the talented winemaker Arnold Graue. Known for his winemaking prowess, he introduced many technical innovations at Nederburg.  He was also a keen young pilot, who loved to explore the wide open skies of Africa.
  • The Motorcycle Marvel Rhône-style blend that completes the collection with a living legend. This full-bodied wine pays tribute to the winemaker Günter Brözel, who was cellar-master at Nederburg from 1956 to 1989. A maven and a maverick, he is known for his exceptionally high standards. Getting around on a 250cc BSA motorcycle, he checked on everyone and everything to ensure his exacting demands were met. In 1985, he became the first winemaker in South Africa to win the coveted International Wine & Spirit Competition Winemaker of the Year Award.  He was a great pioneer and created the first South African noble late harvest wine, Edelkeur, which was launched at the first Nederburg Auction in 1975 and to this day is sold exclusively through this channel.

Other exciting ranges from Nederburg, including the luxurious II Centuries selection, the innovative Ingenuity collection, and The Winemasters range, the core of Nederburg’s quality offering, will also be available for tasting.

All wines offered for tasting will be available for purchase from Norman Goodfellows, the fine wine retailer through which sales will take place at the show.  Go to http://www.winex.co.za/how-to-shop/ for tips on making your shopping experience hassle-free.

Tickets for 2017 RMB WineX can be purchased online at www.computicket.com, or at the door.  Tickets prices range between R185 and R220.  It includes a tasting glass and unlimited tastings. RMB WineX supports responsible alcohol consumption.  The show is only open to those above the age of 18.
