We are thrilled to announce that the O.T.V. from Uva Mira Mountain Vineyards has been awarded the highest accolade for the Best Bordeaux Blend at the Six Nations Wine Challenge, the first South African vineyard to be awarded this prestigious award. Uva Mira excelled at the Six Nations Wine Challenge, also receiving Double Gold for The Dance Cabernet Franc.
The annual Six Nations competition includes the very best wines from Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and the U.S.A to judge and award the New World Champions. This Sydney, Australia based event is the only wine show in the world where wines are chosen exclusively by invitation from the Judges.
“Because the wines are all selected by each of the judges, the standard of wine quality must surely be higher than any competition of this size in the world”, Bob Campbell, Master of Wine New Zealand is quoted as saying.
The trophy-winning O.T.V. is a Cabernet Franc based Bordeaux-style red blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. This particular blend will vary from one vintage to another, always crafted from the finest selection of grapes that the specific vintage has to offer.
According to Christiaan Coetzee, Winemaker at Uva Mira, “being invited to participate in this prestigious competition is an honour; it is an opportunity to be judged against the world’s finest wines. Winning the Trophy really emphasizes the unique nature of our special location at Uva Mira Mountain Vineyards.”
CEO of Six Nations Wine Challenge, Ross Anderson commented on the Bordeaux Class specifically, as a truly exceptional flight of wines with stringent competition.
O.T.V. was recently awarded a 95 Point Rating at the UK based Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA). The Dance Cabernet Franc was also awarded 96 Points at the DWWA and took home Platinum Best in Category for SA Bordeaux Varietals.
