Castelletti (General Secretary UIV): “Important synergies for the future of the sector”

"SIMEI in Munich, in addition to an exceptional international showcase for the best Italian technology in the wine industry, has been an important opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with organisations, institutions, companies and delegations from all over the world, this year a large number indeed.

We have created synergies that are important for the future of the sector and laid the foundations for new commercial partnerships, starting from those with China, with which an agreement for mutual promotion has been endorsed, and Brazil, a very interesting country for our products. In addition, we have signed a memorandum with the Italian-German Chamber of Commerce, in the presence of Renato Cianfarani, Consul General in Munich, to promote our technology products and our wines.

We are therefore very pleased with this edition of SIMEI, an excellent setting to make the best Made in Italy even more international".

This is how Paolo Castelletti, general secretary of the Unione Italiana Vini commented on the numerous institutional meetings that have taken place at SIMEI@drinktec, the leading trade fair in the world of technology for winemaking and bottling, which opened on 11 September at the Munich exhibition centre and is closing today.

The presence of numerous delegations from around the world has been an opportunity for important discussions between the management of the UIV, the organisers of the fair for over 50 years, and representatives of companies and institutions from the various countries.

An important agreement has been signed between the UIV and Mr Liu Jun, President of the China National Grape Society and Hebei Grape Society. A memorandum of understanding to create a platform for cooperation among associations in the field of wine technology and the latest winemaking practices. The Chinese institutions will present the best of the machinery and equipment on display at SIMEI to Chinese manufacturers, promoting their use.

A reciprocal exchange agreement has also been signed with Annamaria Andretta, President of the Italian-German Chamber of Commerce, with the aim of reinforcing the presence and image of Italian wine production in Germany.

To do so, the two institutions have agreed to organise promotion projects together and to give reciprocal visibility through their communication channels. The presence of the Consul General Renato Cianfarani was a confirmation of the interest that this agreement brings.

Very significant was the meeting with Evandro Fontana, Secretary-General of the Department for Production, Science and Technology of Rio Grande Do Sul, the Brazilian region that covers an area of over 280,000 square kilometres and boasts a GDP of 212.5 billion dollars. Since one of its most important industries is viticulture, the region participated in SIMEI with a delegation of more than 45 companies to find out about Italian technology with the aim of improving the quality of their wine. An interesting market, therefore, for exhibitors at SIMEI, but also for wine producers, because the region has expressed an interest in importing larger quantities of Italian wine, that is much appreciated, and hence to work together with the UIV to improve trade between the two countries.
