Org de Rac
It's awards season in the winelands! Org de Rac winemakers, Jurgen Siebritz and Frank Meaker, receive the Bloggers’ Choice award for the Org de Rac Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2013 from Daneel Rossouw of Nedbank and Kathryn Frew of Ramsay Media, publishers of Getaway magazine.

The annual Nedbank Green Wine awards, provide the winemakers at Org de Rac with a perfect opportunity to measure their progress against their peers, and learn from the experiences of other winemakers who are intent on making impressive wines while minimising their agricultural footprint.

At this year’s awards ceremony, which took place in Cape Town in October, Frank and Jurgen were delighted to receive two awards. The fragrant Org de Rac Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 received four stars and the award for “Best Value Wine”, and the rich Org de Rac Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2013 walked away with the Blogger’s Choice Organic Wine, receiving three-and-a-half stars.

The two Org de Rac wines were selected from 120 entries judged across two categories: wines made from organically grown grapes and “best wines from integrated production of wine”. The panel of four judges tasted the wines blind and scored them according to an internationally accepted 20-point/five star system. The full results of the Nedbank Green Wine Awards are published in South Africa’s Green Wine Guide 2016, which is sold with the November issue of Getaway magazine.

Also launched at this year’s awards ceremony was the Nedbank Green Wine Award Winners Route, a map that allows winelovers to easily pinpoint the estates that are conservation champions. Naturally, the Org de Rac estate and its wines feature prominently on the map.

The Michelangelo International Wine & Spirit Awards

Only a few weeks before the Nedbank Green Wines Awards Ceremony, two Org de Rac wines won gold medals at the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirit Awards. These were the Org de Rac Shiraz Reserve 2014 and the Org de Rac Shiraz 2014.

Bethchen's Choice
Bethchen Zaayman - Marketing Manager

Org de Rac’s highly experienced Sales and Marketing Manager, Bethchen Zaayman, recommends the Org de Rac Reserve Shiraz 2014, describing it as “full of different berry flavours with a rich undertone of vanilla and cigar box.”

“The components harmonise into a soft, elegant and balanced wine,” says Bethchen, who jokingly refers to the Reserve Shiraz as “my yummy wine”.

Bethchen grew up in the tiny, wind-swept Namibian town of Lüderitz and says the natural farming methods employed at Org de Rac, and the organic approach to wine-making, resonate with her down-to-earth approach to life. Org de Rac is the first organic winery Bethchen has worked for in 20 years of marketing wine. She is excited by the doors that are opening for organic wines in the market place.
