Participating at the prestigious Michelangelo CCL Label International Wine Awards (MIWA) for the third year, Fairtrade wines competed for the two Best Fairtrade Wine Trophies. Various Fairtrade accredited wines also won a host of gold and silver medals at the awards.

This year the Best Fairtrade Red went to the Stellenrust Cabernet Franc 2010, while the Best Fairtrade White was awarded to Koopmanskloof Chardonnay 2013.

“Today is a celebration of excellence in winemaking. I would however like to dedicate the Fairtrade Trophies to the farm workers who work long hours in the blistering sun for their significant contribution to these superior wines”, said Boudewijn Goossens, Executive Director of Fairtrade Label South Africa at the 17th annual MIWA awards as he handed the Fairtrade over the trophies to the winemakers.
