The 83rd International Dijon Gourmet Fair in France from 31 October till 11 November, 2013 included the Dijon wine competition which was open to South African wineries exhibiting at the Fair.

Morgenster’s flagship red blend Morgenster 2003 received gold and Morgenster 2009 received silver. Winemaker Henry Kotzé commented: “We are delighted with this result which underlines how the Estate’s Bordeaux blends have been made to age and to reveal their complex layers of flavours when they have had time to do so."

South Africa, along with the wine-growing region of the Western Cape, was the guest of honour at the Fair. A highlight of the Fair was The South African Cultural Pavilion, where South African Tourism France promoted the country’s gastronomy, art and crafts, and tourism infrastructures, and showcased a selection of 150 wines for tasting, representative of the Western Cape.

The Fair was part of the South African Season in France this year which covered 250 dance and theatre performances, 100 musical concerts, 50 films, 40 residencies, 35 workshops, and 30 exhibitions.
