Boschendal
Wine lovers with a sweet tooth can indulge their passions simultaneously thanks to a talented team of chocolatiers who have used cocoa sourced in West Africa to craft a range of artisanal chocolates with flavour profiles that include lime, lemon cream, orange marmalade, apricot and spicy Glühwein to complement selected Boschendal wines.
Pairing wine with chocolate has its challenges, not least because traditional chocolates tend to coat the tongue. However, the chocalatiers discovered that the quality cocoa in these chocolates melts quickly on the tongue, leaving no coating to mar the enjoyment of wine.

It took six months of intensive research and development to finalise the recipe for the dark and white chocolates best paired with Boschendal’s 1685 range of wines, and the Boschendal Chocolate Experience is proving to be a big hit, seducing even the most sceptical visitors to the historic estate.

THE PAIRINGS
The chocolate paired with the Boschendal 1685 Sauvignon Blanc delights the palate by enhancing the wine’s refreshing crispness and subtle tropical fruit flavours.

The bold Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay is paired with a velvety white chocolate which ignites the wine’s similar flavour profile and leaves an impression of summer citrus with a creamy vanilla finish.

The Boschendal 1685 Shiraz is paired with a chocolate which could provide a potentially explosive combination, yet the finish is surprisingly soft with a seductive blend of fruit and spices, including cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.

The chocalatiers even managed to solve the riddle of what style of chocolate would enhance the Boschendal Vin D’or, a sweet wine from Boschendal’s Reserve Collection.

The only way to discover the exact nature of these exclusive chocolates, is to experience the Boschendal Chocolate Experience at The Cellar Door Wine Tasting Centre. It costs R60 per person and the chocolates, exclusive to Boschendal, can be bought at R38 a slab. For more information visit www.boschendalwines.com or call 021 870 4200.
