The
2008 vintage forged dark, concentrated and rich wines, yet having a fine thread
of elegance
The
Gravel Hill represents the pinnacle of cellar master Carl Schultz’s winemaking
prowess and is the 13th vintage of this single vineyard offering. As
in previous vintages Carl estimates optimal drinking at 10-20 years from
vintage.
A Shiraz that is unique in character, quality and expression,
winemaker Carl Schultz describes the wine as being
dark-centred and a black-red with a ruby rim in colour, displaying elegant
black fruit with violets, cloves, black pepper and smokiness on the nose. On
the palate the wine shows sweet ripe fruit with spicy oak, resulting in a
lingering savoury finish. The perfect wine to enjoy with fillet of kudu with a red wine jus, rare roast sirloin or a
wild mushroom risotto. Available directly from the farm or through specialist
wine stores, the Gravel Hill Shiraz retails for approximately R550.00 per
bottle.
