Although the sixth annual Helderberg Wine Festival, which takes place from Thursday, 14 November – Sunday, 17 November is mostly about enjoying summer weather, great wine and good food, the relationship between the festival and local charities have been long-established.
Each year charities benefit either through working with individual wineries on projects during the event, or by being “adopted” by the festival and assisted with fundraising efforts.

This year ECHO (Erinvale Care & Help Organisation) is the chosen charity and the festival is assisting with promoting their  glamorous Saturday night Dinner/dance at the NH Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West. Supported by participating wineries  Annandale, Blaauwklippen, Somerbosch and Waterkloof, the evening offers a chance to dress up to the nines to suit the “Summer Smart” theme. The ticket price of R450 includes a 3-course meal, live music, a charity auction and a one-day ticket to the festival on Sunday with all profits raised going towards the many educational and upliftment projects run by this enthusiastic local NPO.

Amorim Cork’s Corklife Project , which aims to train unemployed people in creating crafts from used corks, is once again benefitting from the corks collected by the participating wineries.  Corklife  produced the table centre pieces for the ECHO event which is one of their first official projects and creates a great link between the two charities. The public is also invited to bring along their old corks to add to the collection bins at all participating wine farms.
