Thembalitsha Foundation
Thembalitsha is the Xhosa word for New Hope and we aim to restore hope to the desperate and needy people of South Africa, developing them to a point of self-reliance through the provision of healthcare, education and training.
Thembalitsha is the vision of husband and wife, Frank and Kate Christie. They established the foundation as a registered non-profit organisation in 1997.

In our fledgling stages, we were successful in establishing the first managed healthcare system in the Western Cape. Graceland Preschool, a project serving the children of needy farmers in Stellenbosch, was our first successful venture. From there we were able to develop Themba Training and School of Hope, followed by ThembaCare Athlone, ThembaCare Grabouw and then Village of Hope.

In recent years Thembalitsha has also adopted Bosom Buddies, which was originally birthed as a ministry from Every Nation Somerset West but grew into a successful project in its own right.

Today they employ over 100 people, serve thousands and are ably supported by volunteers from across the globe. It is hard to believe that they could develop from the small set up in Frank and Kate’s lounge to where we are now!

Check out their numerous projects to see how you can get involved.

Recently, Thembalitsha and Paul Cluver joined hands in a new exciting partnership. In their own words, they describe this great venture:

Hope@PaulCluver

A season of phenomenal events to raise funds and awareness for Thembalitsha!

Paul Cluver Wines not only create award-winning wines they also run an established and successful summer season of concerts in a beautiful, rustic amphitheatre on their estate in the Elgin Valley. In the past they’ve played host to countless artists including Prime Circle, The Parlotones, Imogen Heap, Elvis Blue and many more…

Their estate is only an hour from Cape Town and very close to our Village of Hope and ThembaCare Grabouw projects. Over the years they have witnessed the positive impact these projects have made on their community and have generously decided to hand over their prestigious summer concert season to us in order to help us raise our profile as well as generating a bit of cash too! This means that each concert you attend will help to make a difference to those in need. Pretty cool eh?!?

It is such a creative way for a local business to give back to their community! We are SO excited about the potential that this new partnership creates and are honoured to be associated with and supported by Paul Cluver Wines.

If you’ve never experienced a concert at this amphitheatre it is really not to be missed. Check out these pictures for a taste!

We are so excited about the line-up we've secured this season and the potential we have to promote our work at these events.

The first concert of the season will be Suzanne Vega on 01 November. For more information and to book tickets check out our Summer Programme
