De Krans
Award-winning port producer De Krans Wine Cellar once again proved to be a force to be reckoned with scooping three gold medals at this year’s Veritas Awards. Gold medals were awarded to the Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2009, The Last Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2010 and the Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2011.

Silver medals were awarded to the farm’s Touriga Nacional 2012, Cape Tawny Port, Vintage Reserve Port 2001 and White Muscadel Jerepigo 2013.

The Veritas awards dinner, which took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Saturday, 5 October, annually honours the country’s best wines. This year 166 wines and brandies out of a total of 1 792 entries by 291 participants were awarded Veritas gold medals.

Already an award-winning port, the Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2009 earlier this year walked away with the highest score for any port at the 2013 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show. The same port, recently launched in the cellar and trade, was also awarded a 5-star rating in the authoritative 2012 Platter’s Wine Guide, as well as named as one of the Top 100 Wines in South Africa, and clinched a Gold medal and awarded Best Vintage or Vintage Reserve Port at the 2012 Cape Port Producers’ Association Port & Wine Challenge.

Both The Last Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2010 (the only 5-star port in the 2013 Platter’s Wine Guide) and the Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2011 also won gold medals at the 2013 Michelangelo International Wine Awards in September, once again proof that De Krans ports excel in all major wine competitions in South Africa.

De Krans Wine Cellar, home of the South African Champion Port at the 2012 SA Young Wine Show, is situated in the picturesque town of Calitzdorp along the world famous Route 62. The ports produced range from the traditional to modern, catering for all palates throughout the year.
