The Speaker of the National Assembly of
Parliament of South Africa, Max Sisulu, initiated a project to showcase the
best local wines to VIP guests and foreign dignitaries which included the
launch of a special white and red ‘house wine’ duo – The Speakers Choice range
– which is exclusive to Parliament and its members.
Delheim Estate – the pride of Cape pioneer
‘Spatz’ Sperling and his family, situated in the Simonsberg ward in Stellenbosch – was
chosen by a panel of experts to produce the maiden white wine of this bigwig
range, The Speakers Choice Sauvignon Blanc 2013.
“The seat of power, Parliament, is
the place where our elected leaders ponder weighty matters of state, make laws
and dictate the direction this proud nation of ours takes. It is also the
perfect platform where South Africa can showcase its wine farms and what they
are capable of – particularly to foreign delegations. Delheim is extremely honoured
to be the first ambassador of South African wines to Parliament’s VIP guests
from home and abroad,” shares Delheim’s Victor Sperling, the son of beloved patriarch ‘Spatz’ – co-founder of the Stellenbosch Wine
Routes and a living wine legend who has changed the face of wine tourism in
South Africa.
The Speakers Choice Sauvignon Blanc 2013 exudes vibrant citrus and
passion fruit aromas enhanced by luscious tropical fruit nuances on the palate.
Worthy to be served at any big shot assembly, this white wine lingers to an
elegant finish with sleek minerality and crisp acidity.
Good news is that you do not have to be an MP to be able to enjoy this
wine. The Speakers Choice Sauvignon Blanc 2013 is crafted on the same
‘blueprint’ as the newly released Delheim Heerenwijn Sauvignon Blanc 2013 which
is available directly from the cellar or at leading wine outlets countrywide.
It is the perfect summer sip.
Delheim has been producing a wide range of internationally acclaimed
wines for more than 60 years. The
original farm was founded in 1699 and today, Delheim still reflects the
traditions and values of the Sperling and Hoheisen families who have
established the strong foundations, known to people worldwide as Delheim.
