Delheim Estate,
a prominent Stellenbosch wine farm and the pride and joy of the Sperling
family, has showed its support for the indelible service the Stellenbosch Hospice
has rendered over the past 21 years, by donating all the money from the famous
wishing well on the estate to this organisation.
“We see this as
a fitting way to celebrate their 21st anniversary and we wish this
worthy cause a prosperous future. Each year we donate all the coins from our
well to this organisation and we will keep on doing so. Instead of helping
ourselves to other people’s ‘wishes’ we want to help Stellenbosch Hospice,”
shares Vita Lenga, Delheim’s gardener who keeps a beady eye on the well and
ensures that this popular Winelands destination is kept in tip top shape.
Delheim, famed for its pioneering spirit, award-winning
wines, personal atmosphere and awe-inspiring views, has been an avid supporter
of the Stellenbosch Hospice for the past 21 years. The wishing well was built
more than two decades ago and has served as a Hospice aid since the flick of
the very first coin.
“The Stellenbosch Hospice
has an unrelenting spirit to overcome obstacles. Delheim applauds their ‘never
say die’ attitude and determination to succeed in the face of seemingly adverse
obstacles. Attributes personified by my father and which have shaped Delheim
into the award-winning estate it is today,” shares Victor Sperling, the son of beloved
patriarch Spatz Sperling – co-founder of the
Stellenbosch Wine Routes and pioneering legend who has changed the face of wine
tourism in South Africa.
Delheim currently facilitates a
variety of ongoing social upliftment endeavours within the broader
Winelands community.
