2013 Diners Club Winemaker of the Year Award
Entries are now open for the prestigious Diners Club Winemaker of the Year and the Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year awards. This is the 33rd year of this competition, the only industry award that celebrates the makers of the wine and not just the wine. Growing in stature every year, the category for 2013 is non-Bordeaux red blends, while the young winemakers will compete with dry white wines – unfortified.
The aim of the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year Award is to recognise winemakers in South Africa who produce fine wine of ever-increasing quality. As many entries as possible from as wide a spectrum of producers is sought.

The Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year Award encourages winemakers under the age of 30 to develop their skills, express their individuality, and add to the future prestige of South African wines internationally.

Managing director of Diners Club South Africa, Ebrahim Matthews, says the growing number of entries confirms that the event has become the benchmark of quality competition in the local wine industry. “The prestige has grown over more than three decades and South Africa’s leading winemakers have added lustre to the local wine industry.”

Six finalists will be announced a month before the awards function and the winning winemakers in both categories will be announced at a gala function in Franschhoek on 30 November.

Entry forms and information about the competition are available at www.dinersclub.co.za.
