The wines
were part of a line up of approximately 1 000 wines on the tasting table
retailing at less than R80 a bottle. Of these, 472 were found to offer the best
quality-to-price ratio and worthy of inclusion in the 2014 edition of the Best
Value Wine Guide, which will be available towards the end of September.
The recently released wines to come out of the Lanzerac portfolio are part of a
trio, being the Alma Mater Rosé, Alma Mater White and Alma Mater Red, presented
in the iconic teardrop bottle. This
range is aimed at the young or first generation wine drinkers – a range of
uncomplicated wines full of fruit and sunshine with a juicy mouth feel and soft
tannins.
The
Alma Mater White is a white blend made primarily of Chenin Blanc grapes with a
small percentage of Pinot Blanc. The wine is tank fermented in order to retain
freshness with a typical tropical nose. The Alma Mater Red, a Shiraz-driven red
blend, displays prominent fruit on the nose with a juicy palate ending with
soft, supple tannins.
The
wines are available directly from the Tasting Room as well as select retail
outlets nationwide, retailing for approximately R49 per bottle.
