Cellar2Cellar
Not only does the Cellar2Cellar Trail Run & Wine Experience give trail runners and wine lovers the opportunity to wine their way through the picturesque Blaauwklippen Vineyards, but this much loved event has also inspired the inclusion of a refreshingly fruity Rosé to the Tamboerskloof range of wines.
“Kleinood has been part of the Cellar2Cellar Trail Run since its inception,” says Thelma Du Plooy, Kleinood Marketing Manager. “Kleinood , the home of Tamboerskloof Wines, is a small family owned farm that produces wine and olive oil. Four years ago we only had our flagship red wine, Tamboerskloof Syrah and our white wine, Tamboerskloof Viognier. With the Cellar2Cellar Trail Run taking place during spring we toyed with the idea of a lighter styled wine that would be easy and fun to enjoy during the 12km run/walk. Gunter Schultz, our winemaker, then made 500 bottles of a 100% Shiraz based Rosé using only grapes from the farm. Unlabelled, the Rosé was literally just bottled for the Cellar2Cellar Trail Run. This small folly of ours proved to be a huge success by all accounts as participants kept coming back to the farm to purchase the wine which was according to them the best Rosé ever.”

“Thanks to this demand, in 2012 we officially launched the Tamboerskloof Katharien Syrah Rosé. There aren’t many 100% Shiraz Rosé wines available on the market,” continues Du Plooy.

“We always look forward to the Cellar2Cellar day, as it is a wonderful opportunity to introduce the farm to both local and foreign friends of Kleinood. This year is no exception. It is always a pleasure to receive the costumed walkers, serious runners and exhausted stragglers on the farm and share in the exuberance and laughter surrounding this fun, family event on what is usually a beautiful fresh spring day in the Blaauwklippen valley.”

Produced in small volumes, the Tamboerskloof Katharien Syrah Rosé retails at R65.00 a bottle and is available from Kleinood and selective fine wine shops and delis in Cape Town.
