Delheim Estate
Celebrate Heritage Day on a legendary wine farm steeped in it, by joining Delheim Estate outside Stellenbosch, for a laid-back Snoek Braai with the Sperling family, when they light the fires in salute to cultural unity on Tuesday, 24 September.
Fuelled by more than six decades of quality winemaking, Delheim was the first wine estate in the country to serve food almost four decades ago. Today good food and wine still play an integral part in our daily existence as it brings people from across the world together. We invite everyone to gather their taste buds and celebrate Braai Day in the warm company of Delheim, where the spirit of Ubuntu makes one truly feel at home,” shares Victor Sperling, the son of patriarch Spatz Sperling – co-founder of the Stellenbosch Wine Routes and pioneering legend who has changed the face of wine tourism in South Africa.

The sizzling Snoek Braai at Delheim is worth the journey as Victor and his braai-comrades will treat guests to a homegrown braai-feast complete with fresh snoek on the coals, traditional roosterkoek, mealies, sweet potatoes and braai-salads with a twist. For the children, Delheim’s Chef Christine Claasen will prepare a special sausage-on-a-skewer served with fresh fruit. Dessert will be Delheim’s famous mascarpone cheesecake with berry coulis for adults and a passion fruit sorbet cone for the children.

Lunch at Delheim is a relaxing experience in a serene setting framed by towering oak trees, with children and the ever-present, resident tribe of Jack Russells competing for space on the lush lawns next to the Klip River. It offers the perfect Braai Day retreat for families and friends who want to revel in the ultimate South African pastime – without having to light a fire or lift a tong.

Bookings for the Delheim Snoek Braai are essential as seating is limited. It costs R145pp (adults) and R65 for children under twelve, which includes the braai buffet (excludes beverages and gratuity). Fires will be lit at 11h00 for 12h00.
