SA wines on summit agenda

It is hoped South Africa’s export agreement to the European Union will be on the agenda during the SA-EU summit.
Local winemakers say while exports to the EU are up by 40%, many smaller producers are not seeing the benefits.

The EU buys the wine in bulk from South Africa but it is bottled and packaged abroad.

South African wine is fast becoming the toast of Europe as exports continue to increase.

Andre Morgenthal of Wine of South Africa said: "The reasons for the growth in exports is basically the weaker rand but also because we've had good crops in terms of quality and value over the past two years, while our competitors have had weaker crops."
