Simonsig Estate hit the high notes with a Gold medal for its Woolworths Limited Release Sur Lie Chenin Blanc 2012 at the prestigious and highly contested, 2013 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show.
“Chenin blanc was the first wine released by Simonsig founder and family patriarch Frans Malan in 1968. The Simonsig Woolworths Limited Release brings added depth and complexity to our white wine line-up,” says Simonsig cellarmaster Johan Malan.

The Woolworths Limited Release Sur Lie Chenin Blanc 2012 flaunts an attractive starbright pale straw hue and displays layers of fragrant tropical fruit flavours such as guava, pineapple and Golden Delicious apples. An abundance of honeysuckle and dried fruit characters linger on the crisp, dry finish. Johan recommends serving this wine slightly chilled as an aperitif or enjoyed with fresh seafood.

The Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show is one of South Africa’s most prominent wine competitions. Chaired by respected wine expert and writer Michael Fridjhon, the 2013 competition saw only 31 Gold and 77 Silver medals, a drop from 42 and 178 medals respectively, awarded during the 2012 competition.

The Simonsig Woolworths Limited Release Chenin Blanc 2012 retails at R 59.95 per bottle at selected="true"="true" Woolworths outlets. For more information on Simonsig contact Tel: (021) 888 4915 or visit www.simonsig.co.za.
