Montino wines of Riebeek Cellars started the year for Pieter Hanekom and Lindie Bouwer on a high note when they won the first prize in a sms competition run by Montino wines. The competition coincided with the launch of the new Montino Petillant Rosso, a red wine in the well-known petillant style.
The competition was run over an 11-week period in liquor outlets country wide. The only thing participants had to do to become eligible for one of the big prizes was to buy a bottle of Montino wine and enter with a sms. Participants could buy any one of the three Montino wines in the range - Montino Petillant Rosso, Montino Petillant Light or the Montino Natural Sweet Rosé, to enter for the lucky draw.

Alta Saayman, Marketing Manager for Riebeek Cellars and the Montino range of wines, is ecstatic over the success of the competition.

“The number of entries exceeded all our expectations and I am happy that so many people are aware of the Montino brand. It was also encouraging to note that consumers country wide are aware of our new Montino Petillant Rosso.

“This light wine range is very popular due to the light sparkle, so typical to the petillant style. The Montino Petillant Rosso is also a low alcohol wine with a fresh appearance ideal for the al fresco dinners and picnics outdoors, so typical of the South African lifestyle.

“The Montino Petillant Rosso is a fruity red wine with soft aromas of red fruit on the nose and pairs well with fresh salads and tapas. It also great wine to have with a Malay curry dish to provide the sweet counter taste,” Saayman says.

Pieter, who works in the post office in Malmesbury, says he was very surprised when he received the telephone call to inform him that  he had won the first prize to the value of R15 000 in the Montino competition.

"Riebeek Cellar’s wines and especially the Montino range, is sold nationally and one usually wonders what your changes of winning the grand prize are when you enter competitions of this nature.

“I decided on the room make-over as my prize and had kitchen cupboards installed in the house of my friend, Lindie Bouwer, in Brackenfell,” he said about this great windfall.

Pieter won the lucky draw after purchasing a bottle of Montino Petillant Rosso at the Pick ‘n Pay store in Malmesbury.

Lindie, a regional accountant at Andrag in Bellville, said she was as surprised when Pieter told her about him winning the competition.
“I was very happy when he decided to have the cupboards build into my kitchen. I had some cupboards but his make-over made life a lot easier for me. I also love the Montino Petillant Rosso with which Pieter had entered - he must have realised this when he bought the bottle with which he entered the competition,” Bouwer said.

The winner of the competition had the option to select his prize from a shopping spree, a dinner party with friends, a family photoshoot, a day at the spa or the make-over of a room in their house – all to the value of R15 000.
Saayman says the popularity of the Montino range is growing continuously and competitions such as this one adds to the ongoing increase of brand awareness.
