Riebeek Cellar
Produced at the very heart of the Swartland, wines from the verdant Riebeek Valley have been making news for quite some time, but recently this faint hum of recognition has amplified to a roar of appreciation.
Produced at the very heart of the Swartland, wines from the verdant Riebeek Valley have been making news for quite some time, but recently this faint hum of recognition has amplified to a roar of appreciation.

As the area's foremost cooperative wine venture, Riebeek Cellars has been instrumental in spearheading the launch of the Swartland as a wine region to be taken seriously.  Established in 1941 by a dynamic group of descendants of long-established Huguenot winemaking families, the cellar has, in recent years, evolved from  a mere producer and distributer of quality wine products, to a community force to be reckoned with. Among their outreach initiatives number an empowerment project that allows previously disadvantaged community members to jointly own and operate a working wine farm, as well as the hosting of numerous events that draw visitors to the Valley from far and wide, thereby boosting the local economy.

The winery has received quite a number of well-deserved accolades of late, including the 2011 General Smuts trophy for their Kasteelberg Viognier, which is awarded annually to the overall champion wine of South African National Young Wine Show. While the passionate winemakers ensure that the cellar keeps up with world trends, they insist that they “don't follow blindly - our wines are still very much ‘Riebeek'’, very much our own”.

The most recent addition to the contemporary Riebeek Cellars range is the Montino collection – three sprightly low alcohol wines with a faint hit of sparkle, available in Pettilant Rosso, Light and Rosé. The perfect complement to summertime porch-bound shenanigans, these easy drinking wines have been crafted especially for fun-loving consumers who enjoy the lighter side of life.

Young and fresh with a delicious tongue-in-cheek character, the Montino collection was recently launched on the social media scene with a slew of festive bells and whistles. Head on over to the Montino Wines Facebook page to interact with the online team, who works behind the scenes to bring you a variety of upbeat content that is guaranteed to turn any frown upside-down.

While you’re there, why not take a chance and enter one of the two competitions that are currently running? You can ‘like and share’ to stand a chance of winning a Samsung ST77 (perfect to take those happy snaps on loved-up weekends away) or take part in the Riebeek Cellars Easter Egg Hunt, where lucky winners walk away with some of Riebeek Cellars’ finest.  Also keep an eye out for the brand new winter campaign which will be launching soon.
