Wine Anorak is a term used for Wine Nerds, but not sure that Jamie Goode fits the bill!

Jamie, wine writer, blogger, judge and wine lover, is in South Africa and was on the panel of tasters to choose the wines that will be sold on the 39th Nederburg Auction in September this year.

The panel comprised a mix of both South African and international wine buffs, with no less than three of them Masters of Wine, viz Cathy van Zyl, Richard Kershaw & Greg Sherwood.
A razor sharp focus on quality and rarity sees the 2013 Nederburg Auction aiming to offer smaller lots of wines that are true pockets of excellence for buyers, at the kind of industry event where wine connoisseurs and winemakers meet to partake in and celebrate the best that South Africa has to offer. With this in mind, international judges were invited to be part of the panel to ensure that wines chosen transcend borders and also offer global appeal, particularly for prospective private buyers. Additionally, the panel’s mandate was to choose wines that are both mature enough to enjoy immediately, yet still have further ageing potential.
Close to 300 wines were tasted blind by the panel over two days on 14 & 15 March, and at the end of it, Judy Brower from wine.co.za interviewed them, red teeth and all.

Watch our first video below of Jamie Goode's impressions - we will be publishing a different panelist's views on video every week.
