Red winemaker Bertho van der Westhuizen is a giant of a man who captained the legendary Maties rugby team while studying B.Sc Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch.
Bertho comes from family of winemakers. His father and grandfather spending a collective 50 years at Neethlingshof outside Stellenbosch. His father, Schalk, is now the winemaker at Alto.

He joined Brampton after 8 years as winemaker at Kleine Zalze and is responsible for red and rosé wines as well as the popular Brampton range.
