“Pink, it was love at first sight”, might be one of the lines to Aerosmith’s catchy hit single Pink, and just like this rock group pink is definitely our favourite colour at Boplaas this Valentine’s Day with our Boplaas Pinot Noir Brut, Boplaas Pinot Noir Blanc de Noir & Boplaas Cape Pink.
Pink wine, that is blanc de noir or rose, are the ideal wines for the glorious South African summer, and the lighter fare we enjoy this time of the year with their lower alcohol levels, fresh fruity flavours and the fact they can be enjoyed ice cold.

What better way to treat that someone special in your life with the Boplaas Pinot Noir Brut – a refreshingly dry blanc de noir Pinot Noir sparkling with a perfectly salmon pink hue. This sparkling is the perfect aperitif or partner to light summer fare, canapés and sea food – plump Knysna Oysters anyone for a Valentine’s brunch?

For those a little more adventurous or in need of some serious fizz without reverting to Champagne, the limited release Boplaas Pinot Noir Methodé Cap Classique 2009 with its melange of red berries, brioche and “leesy” aromas, mouth-watering acidity and minuscule bubbles will transport you all the way to a blanket in front of the Eiffel tower with a picnic basket filled with fresh baguettes, smoked salmon, pâtés, soft cheeses and fresh strawberries. Only 3000 bottles of this bottle fermented sparkling wine were crafted.

Pinot Noir might be the “heart break grape”, but a sip of the Boplaas Pinot Noir Blanc de Noir with its rosebud pink colour and haunting aromas of raspberry, strawberry, ripe cherry and subtle spice will make you fall in love all over again. This wine is best enjoyed well chilled accompanied by light summer fare, seafood dishes, salads, soft cheeses or simply sipped while enjoying a sunset with your toes lapped by the ocean.

What would a special occasion be without a spot of Port? The Boplaas Cape Pink “Port” with its juicy red cherry, raspberry, cranberry, green apple and floral aromas is the ideal port of call. This Cape Pink is crafted from the same Portuguese varietals as its illustrious stable mates, but this fortified blanc de noir is precociously sweeter, best served ice-cold and can quite easily be used as a mixer in cocktails. Enjoy a splash of Boplaas Cape Pink topped up with Boplaas Pinot Noir Brut in a flute; over crushed ice with a shot of cranberry and soda in a martini glass; enjoy ice cold with fresh fruits, sorbets and lighter desserts or simple sip solo.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, this trio of pink wines - the Boplaas Pinot Noir Brut, Boplaas Blanc de Noir and Boplaas Cape Pink - will be available from our cellar door in Calitzdorp for R110-00 from the 13th to 28th February.
