The most recent successful promotional event was the Three Wine Men, Manchester, on 1 & 2 December 2012. Three different masterclasses were led by Tim Atkin MW and each included a selection of South Africa’s Top 100 Wines Tim presented a pick of the winning wines over three prestigious sessions each packed to capacity with trade and consumers . These fine wines represented the amazing diversity of famous wineries and regions in the Cape. Wineries showcased included Anwilka, Cederberg, Glenwood, Groot Constantia, Ken Forrester, Klein Constantia, Saronsberg, Vilafonté and Warwick. Tim had this to say about the Masterclass sessions: “The three South African tastings last weekend were all sold out, which was great news. The 40 people who attended each one were a mixture of experts (one or two wine merchants included), informed consumers and comparative novices. I would say that around 10% of those who attended had been to SA. Most hadnt, although they knew a little about the wines. It was a pleasure to show such excellent wines and to move people beyond £5.99 Chenin Blanc and red blends. All of the wines showed well. There was also a good mixture of regions and wine styles, which gave me the chance to tell people about coastal influences, tradition, modernity, etc. From my point of view it was a very worthwhile exercise. The tastings lasted for around 40 minutes each and gave the participants a good introduction to the Cape and its wine styles.
