Most on-consumption licenced businesses such as restaurants, pubs and clubs will be able to sell liquor from 11h00 until 02h00. However premises located in residential areas e.g. guesthouses will only be able to sell between 11h00 and 23h00. Hotels and casino’s will be allowed to sell until 02h00. Liquor sales hours for businesses with off-consumption liquor licences such as supermarkets, liquor stores, wineries will be from 09h00 till 18h00. They will not be able to sell liquor on a Sunday with the exception of wineries. According to Danie Cronje, the Director of Liquor Law Services at Cluver Markotter Incorporated it is expected that supermarkets will request an amendment to the draft By-law to allow for off-consumption licence holders to apply for an extension of hours until 20h00 as provided for in the Western Cape Liquor Act. It is also expected that holders of on-consumption liquor licences will request an amendment to allow them to apply for an extension of their hours from 02h00 until 04h00 as is provided for in the Western Cape Liquor Act and the City of Cape Town’s liquor sales by-law.” For updates on Liquor Law follow me on Twitter (@Danie_Cronje).
