Carla van der Merwe
With the month of love kicking off today, we decided to turn our focus to pink wine in the shop. Our selection includes Rose's, Pinot noir's, Sparkling wines and Blanc de Noir's. Below are my top 10 picks.
Wine for a first date:
If you're on a first date or starting something new then the best wine to go for is one that is not too complicated (or expensive) yet it is from a well known and reliable brand. First date wine should also be subtle enough to appeal to a broad taste profile. On a first date you also don't want to break the bank, so here are some affordable first date wines.

Balance Buddy Rosé 2011
A natural sweet perlé wine which is soft and refreshing with hints of strawberry and cherries and has a crisp clean finish. This unpretentious wine is easy drinking, enjoyable and refreshing.

Arniston Bay The Shore Rosé NV
A fresh, easy drinking Rosé, filled with sweet red berry and strawberry flavours. Perfect for everyday enjoyment on its own or with summer salads and open sandwiches.

Swartland Blanc de Noir 2011
Banana-plum flavours from Pinotage on the nose, with a soft well-structured palate that lingers at the finish. Its colour is vibrant onion skin. Excellent alone or as an accompaniment to starters such as caviar, prosciutto or smoked salmon.

Rickety Bridge Rosé 2011
A dry, traditional style Rosé with juicy red cherries and strawberries intermingled with Turkish delight and a touch of spice. A lovely creamy yet fresh palate showing the perfect balance between acidity and sweetness. Picnics, salads, sushi, prawns, smoked salmon or on its own.

Wine to impress with:
Whether you've been dating for a while or you're ready to take that next step in your relationship, nothing says impressive like a glass of bubbly. A glass of wine with a bit of a fizz relays an air of sophistication and elegance. The perfect way to turn a date into a memorable event is to a bit of sparkle.

Graham Beck Brut Rosé NV
Pale silver-pink. Aromas of raspberries, cherries and a few secondary whiffs of minerality. This is a wine to buy if you're looking to impress your date as this wine is both stylish and sexy. With it's recent win for Best Non-Vintage Brut at the Amorim Cork Cap Classique Challenge last year, this wine shows off.

Boschendal Le Grand Pavillon Brut Rosé NV
Exceptionally pleasing on the eye as well as the palate, Le Grande Pavillon Brut Rosé sparkles with versatility, making it ideal for enjoying on its own or in a bubbly and al fresco environment along with seafood, summer salads and chicken dishes. As the winner of a Silver Medal at the Effervescents Du Monde 2011 Best Sparkling Wines Competition, this wine will certainly charm the socks off your date.

Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel Brut Rosé 2009
A sparkling wine from one of the first producers in the country exudes finesse and style. Bright, delightful rosy pink colour. Whimsical aromas invites you to a wonderland of bubbles filled with strawberries and decadent red berries. The fine mousse reflects the elegance while pronouncing the floral notes. A subtle acidity is the finishing touch that leads to a crisp and refreshing dry finish.
