Anthonij Rupert Wyne has just released the latest vintage of its famous Optima Bordeaux red blend. A wine of exceptional quality, it is crafted using only the finest grapes sourced from the best terroirs and made with the most advanced winemaking techniques available.
From harvest to release, the 2022 vintage has spent more than three years evolving into the wine it was destined to become. Following 20 months of maturation in French oak and extended bottle ageing prior to release, it emerges with remarkable balance, depth and complexity and a testament to the value of time.
The 2022 growing season delivered exceptional fruit from our vineyards dedicated for the Anthonij Rupert Optima. Cooler conditions, fewer heat spikes, and an extended ripening period allowed the Bordeaux varieties to develop intense colour, layered aromatics and finely structured tannins. The result is a wine of elegance, balance and longevity.
Gentle aromas of fruitcake, dark berries and warm spice rise from the glass, with subtle floral notes and a hint of cracked pepper adding complexity. The palate is supple and textured, echoing the nose with layers of rich berry fruit and gentle fruitcake spice. A lively thread of spice brings freshness and energy, while the velvety mouthfeel adds depth and generosity. Well-integrated oak quietly supports the fruit, creating balance and harmony without dominating. The wine finishes long and poised, with lingering notes of spice and dark fruit.
