Danie Steytler Snr, 3rd generation winemaker and previous owner of Kaapzicht Wine Estate, died of cancer on Sunday, 5 January 2025. Our thoughts are with Yngvild, Danie Junior, and Carin Steytler and the Kaapzicht family in this difficult time. Danie will be very much missed.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved father, husband, and grandfather, Danie Louis Steytler. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife and children.
Danie’s faith as a Christian sustained him through life’s trials, and he has now found eternal rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father. His unwavering love for his family, his wisdom, and his gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
While we grieve his absence, we take comfort in the promise of eternal life and celebrate the incredible legacy he leaves behind.
Memorial service will be held on 11.01.2025 at 10h00 at Kaapzicht.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Danie Steytler Snr.
Danie was a true legend in the South African wine community. His passion, vision, and unwavering dedication to wine, especially the Bottelary Hills region, leaves an indelible mark.
His legacy will live on through the Kaapzicht brand he built, the love for the craft passed on to Danie Jnr and the hearts he touched along the way.

My heart broke when I heard that Danie Steytler Snr - @kaapzichtwines legend, passed this morning.
And, when legends of Stellenbosch’s wine family are remembered, Danie Steytler Snr. is undoubtedly at the heart - a true mensch and gentleman, always guided by his heart.
In his own words from the article, he reflected:
“Kaapzicht will always be my favourite place in the world. It is here where my dad allowed me to carry on the family business. He could have chosen to sell the farm and retire comfortably, but instead, he entrusted me as its new custodian. Witnessing four generations of hard work come to fruition has been the greatest joy of my life. That’s why it’s so important to farm with integrity, respecting the workers and the soil. We must farm our land in a way the good Lord would approve.”
Danie, your passing is a transition, not an end. Your will be deeply missed. To those who love you - your family, friends, and the greater wine community - may they find comfort in the legacy you leave behind.
