In 2013 I had the crazy dream to start the South African Team that would go to the inaugural wine Olympics in France, a new blind tasting competition organized by the Revue du Vin de France, a wine magazine published since 1927! When I started to raise awareness on this project, many people smiled and joked about Cool Runnings, the movie featuring the Jamaican bobsleigh team going to the winter Olympics.
One person truly believed in it, from the very beginning! This is how I started a long term partnership with Judy Brower from wine.co.za. She understood the potential in good stories in the wine industry, she grasped that it was much more than just reporting stories, she wanted to be part of the stories.
wine.co.za was our first official sponsor for the inaugural Team SA 2013. Chantelle Johansson, Roland Peens, Khusolo Mputa, Gavin Whittaker and Anton Swarts were proudly wearing the wine.co.za colours from the day they won their seat to France.
The good news is that we are now almost as famous as the Jamaican sprinters, with the movie Blind Ambition having won the Audience Award at the NYC Tribeca festival. My dream would have never been this big if wine.co.za had not been here to support us.
